The Great Bannock Bake Off 2023

Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Center is pleased to announce the first Great Bannock Bake Off!

The contest is open to all ages currently living in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Edmonton and both Lac St Anne and Parkland Country area. Recipes must be original to you or shared with you from within your family or friends. Please include all names that should be credited in your recipe. Contestants are not to use any recipe that is published with copyrights.

Please bring a batch of bannock based off of your own or a familial recipe. Entries should be between 8-12 pieces. There will be three categories;

- Simply Bannock

- Bannock+ (Ingredients mixed in)

- Bannock with the Fixins’ (Pairings – jams, jellies, spreads)

Each Contestant must have:

- have completed the entry form

- pay for the $5 fee to ensure participation

- bring their own home-made Bannock and any extra features they would like judged if applicable

 

Bannock recipes can be included, but are not required. Please feel free to test out your recipe at home. 

 Comments or stories around recipes, including how or why you created it are highly encouraged. Please do tell us how your recipe might be connected to you or your family, your culture, your community, or any other important connections.

Recipes will be judged by a panel of bannock experts and enthusiasts. Their criteria will be based on:

  • Overall Taste

  • Creativity, including personal connection

  • Texture

 

All entries must be received by 3:30 pm on November 30th , 2023

 

Pre-registrations is required. This event will be held at the Skydancer Indigenous Market on Dec 2nd, 2023 located in Stony Plain at the John Paul II School. This is an In Person Event Only. Contestants will be expected to attend between 12:00 – 1:30 pm, although these are not exact times and entrants will be expected to be flexible.

 

Registrations can be paid in person at Skydancer Cultural Center, over the phone via credit card or they can be e-transferred to skydancerindigenous@gmail.com  

If dropping entries off in person, all information must be typed or clearly printed.

One Entry Per Person. Each entry must include the registration page to be filled out or all information written out clearly and submitted with the entry. 

 

Winners will be announced at competition on December 2nd, 2023.

Entry constitutes permission to use the winner's name and photos for editorial and promotional purposes by Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Center and their affiliates.
